Valleycliffe Elementary Outdoor Classroom

Since the Fall of 2014, the students, teachers and community have created a world class outdoor learning habitat.

We've restored a wetland, planted over 2000 plants and trees, installed signage, created wandering paths, a gathering circle, planted pollinator gardens and a pollinator meadow, created and planted edible gardens, as well as built fences and removed invasive species.

We are fortunate to have a space on the Traditional Territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation that includes many healthy ecosystems which we can learn about, be stewards for, and enjoy.

In our Outdoor Classroom you will find garden beds, pollinator gardens and a pollinator meadow, a forest, a ephemeral wetland, an Indigenous plant trail, and a gathering space. Our Outdoor Classroom is home to many including amphibians such as Salamanders (Long-toed and Northwestern), the Pacific Tree Frog, Western Toad (Species at Risk), Red Legged Frog (Species at Risk), many birds including Chickadees and Northern Flickers, mammals such as the Little Brown Myotis (Species at Risk), and reptiles such as the Alligator Lizard.
