Focusing on the virtue of ‘Unity through Diversity’, our students have been finding about their own ancestry this month. A map at the front entry of the school has been used to pin the locations where the ancestors immigrated from. During the Multicultural Day on Mar 17th, we witnessed great performances, staff and students in cultural dress and we feasted on amazing variety of food. We hosted a special performance by Jocelyn Pettit, a local Celtic fiddler. Thank you to the parents, staff and students for a great day.
Last Friday, the Gr. 4 students participated in the Ministry of Education Satisfaction Survey. The Gr. 4 parents still have a chance to complete the survey until the end of April.
The report card distribution and the Parent Teacher interviews went well. We always appreciate conversations with the parents regarding student learning.
The after school activities mentored by HSS students continues to be a success. In April, we have basketball and cartooning on Tuesdays and volleyball and crafts on Wednesdays between 3:30 and 4:30 pm. These activities are open to Gr.3 to 6 students.
The Cake walk was a huge success! The students had so much fun. A huge thank you to all parents who donated the cakes. We would also like to thank Nester’s Market and Save On Foods for their generous donations. On the Wacky Hair Day, we witness a variety of interesting hair styles.
On another note, we are noticing that a fair number of our students are arriving at school late. We would like to remind the parents that school starts at 8:50 sharp and we would appreciate the student drop off before this time. As well, it would be helpful if you could book any appointments or holidays outside of instructional time if possible. We are concerned whenever students lose instructional time that may result in learning gaps.
Finally, we would like to wish a happy, restful and fun Spring Break! School reopens on April 7th.
