We have had a great start to the new school year at VCE. The students are happily settled in their classes and have begun their learning journey. We welcome all our new students at the school. As well, we welcome Mrs. Lock who will be our Collaborative Support Teacher this year.
In September, the first school-wide event was Terry Fox Run. We honored Terry Fox by having an information assembly, participating in a run and raising over $800 for cancer research! Thank you to all who organized and participated in the events.
The annual book fair was very successful. Thank you to Mrs. Zoo, staff and parents for bringing in a variety of books for our students. As well, we had a great turn out at the Meet the Teachers night and the Welcome Back BBQ. It was a pleasure to see the families out to mingle in spite of the weather.
The monthly assembly will resume with October’s assembly focusing on the theme of ‘Thankfulness’. Parents are welcome to join us on Wed, Oct 7th at 2 pm. Different classes will be participating and the students will be sharing a statement of gratitude about something that has taken place since school started.
Getting trained for our Cross Country team, many of the students have been training at lunch breaks. A big thank you to Mrs. Lock for sponsoring the team. The first district meet will be held at VCE on Tues, Oct 6th
Much anticipated Missoula Children’s Theatre production this year is Sleeping Beauty. The auditions will be after school on Monday, Oct 5th and the performances are on Fri, and Sat, Oct 9th and 10th. It promises to be wonderful. A huge thank you to Mrs. Jordan, staff and parents for providing this opportunity for our students. Similar program to the last year, the VCE Strings program starts on Tues, Oct 6th. The lessons will be taking place on Tues and Thurs at 7:50 am. Finally, the after school sports and arts/crafts sessions will get started on Tues, Oct 6th between 3:30 to 4:30 pm. It’s open to students in Gr. 3 to 6 and will be run Mondays and Tuesdays with HSSS students mentoring the VCE students.
The next PAC meeting is on Tues, Oct 29th at 7 pm. Please come out and participate. We need your input in making VCE a great school. There is child-minding provided for your convenience. The PAC is doing its first fundraiser – a Turkey raffle. The raffle tickets have gone home. Each child will have a book of 8 tickets to sell. The money raised from this fundraiser will help the school PAC fund projects such as: gymnast in residence, music programs, artist in residence, and so much more. If you sell all your tickets, more tickets are available in the office. The class that sells the most tickets gets a yummy surprise! The draw will be on Oct 8th.
Finally, the Student Information Verification forms are going home. Please check that the information is correct, make necessary changes and return it to the school as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support!
Ms. Ji Ai Cho, Principal
