Happy Halloween

Dear Families,

Since September, the staff has been working together to find ways to teach specific collaboration skills necessary for students to be successful learners in class. We have had deep discussions regarding the strategies to be used to teach skills for collaboration for example as active listening and asking good questions. We are learning a lot in the process. We will be continuing our learning throughout the school year.

On Wed, we hosted Rock the Arts Puppet Show. It was a great show with excellent messages for our students – the importance of kindness, courage and perseverance. The show was enjoyed by everyone.

At the Halloween parade today, we had many students, staff and parents in awesome costumes! It was wonderful to see great school spirit. More importantly, we were able to collect items for the Squamish Food Bank with our Halloween for Hunger campaign. We collected over 400 items. Thank you to all who donated for our community.

Last week, Mrs. Nunn’s Gr. 6 students attended the We Day in Vancouver. They listened to the stories from inspiring speakers, watched fantastic performers and learned about how an individual action can make a difference locally and globally.

Thinking globally, VCE is fundraising to send students to secondary schools in Kenya. The Purdy’s chocolate sale for the Kenya Tuition Fund is running again. Last year, VCE and HSS raised $3000 which allowed 52 students to attend school. If you would like to help, please send in the order forms in by Nov 5th.

On Wed, Nov 4th, we will be having an assembly to highlight our learning and practice with Self-regulation. There will be different classes participating in the assembly. You are welcome to join us at 9:15 am.

The school will be closed on the Nov 6th which is a District Implementation Day for the staff. We will be working together as a district to examine our practices in line with the district’s Strategic Plan and the Pathways. There will be an Aboriginal focus to the day.

The Remembrance Day assembly on Wed, Nov 10th at 11 am to commemorate those who died in armed conflicts.

On a lighter note, the Moustache Day is on Fri, Nov 13th so students come with a moustache to school that day.

Finally, the after school sports and arts/crafts sessions got started on Tuesday. The Girls & Boys Club runs on Mondays and Tuesdays between 3:30 to 4:30 pm. It’s open to students in Gr. 3 to 6 and will be run Mondays and Tuesdays with HSSS students mentoring the VCE students.

Thank you for your continued support!
