Working Together

Dear Families,

To start the year, the students have set personal goals in the following areas: Healthy Living (Physical Activity & Healthy Eating), Social/Emotional (Feeling Good) and Learning Goals. Please check out the hallway for these goals that the students are working on.

As well, Mr. Young and Mrs. Bourdon have been preparing our Gr. 4 students for the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) which will be written in the upcoming weeks. FSA is an annual province-wide assessment of British Columbia students’ academic skills, and provides a snapshot of how well BC students are learning foundation skills in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Numeracy. For more information and sample exams, please go to

On the last ProD Day, the staff spent time collaborating. We took a careful look at the new curriculum and investigated on how student collaboration fit into to the competencies outlined by the curriculum. If you would like to see the new curriculum, please go to

We have already started planning for next year. To help us with this, we are asking you to let us know if your child will not be attending VCE in September. Please contact the office if this is the case.

Also, I have asked for your participation in the survey for my appraisal as the Principal of VCE. If you have not done the survey, please go to: If you would like to complete the paper copy of the survey, it is available in the office. Thank you for your help with this. I really appreciate your feedback.

Our annual Talent Show will be held on Monday, Jan 25th at 1pm. Families are welcome to join us for the show. We have singers, dancers, pianists, tumblers and much more. It’s sure to be fun.

Several of our classes are headed to the Vancouver Aquarium on Jan 28th to learn about marine life and conservation.

The school will be closed for students on Fri, Jan 29th for Non-Instructional Day. The staff will be busy learning to implement the new curriculum.

Lastly, the Kindness Assembly is on Wed, Feb 3rd at 9 am. Kindness and empathy is one of VCE’s goals. We will have presentations from different classes. Following the assembly, the students will be writing kind messages to their classmates with the “Warm and Fuzzies” and will be encouraged to do random acts of kindness.

Thank you for your continued support!

Ji Ai Cho, Principal
