May started off very busy with the Student-led Conference. Thank you to the staff and students who worked hard to get ready to share our students’ learning with the parents.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success. The students enjoyed listening to the two authors that we hosted – Anne Ames and Ashley Spires. As well, the students had an opportunity to purchase great books.
On Monday, our students learned about the work of OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society and had a chance to meet a red-tailed hawk & a great horned owl. Thank you to Mrs. Zoo for organizing the visit.
The bike rodeo was a fun and informative event. Thank you to Mrs. Knopp, the DRMS and Squamish Rotary volunteers.
The annual VCE Carnival is promising to be fun and exciting tonight. A huge thanks to Amy Reid and the PAC for organizing this worthwhile event. Everyone is very excited! As well, thank you to Mrs. Norie, Mrs. Zuckernick, Mrs. Platz and Alana Norie for raising awareness and support for kids with cancer and blood disorders through Balding for Dollars.
Looking ahead, on Monday, we will be hosting the HSSS and DRMS bands at 11 am. It’s always a pleasure to watch the older students from our district perform. Thank you to Mrs. Booth and Mrs. Wallace for the special concert.
On Wed morning, some of our leadership students and HSSS students will be Skyping with the students from Inoro Secondary School in Nanyuki, Kenya. The topics of discussion are: food resources, women’s rights, employment choices, hobbies and life style. We hope to learn from our discussion together.
For our future Kindergarteners, on Thurs the 19th, between 3:30 to 4:40 pm, the Ready Set Learn program will be running. It’s a chance for the children and their families to meet the teachers and get ready for school in the fall.
We are looking forward to Ballet Victoria performing for us on the 24th. The program will offer an entertaining performance of selected works, illustrating an educational and inspiring introduction to ballet.
The last main event coming up in May is the Multicultural Day on May 26th. We are asking students to bring some food from their culture to share at lunch and dress in cultural regalia. As well, we need parents who can demonstrate games and activities from their culture. There will be a form being sent home next week for sign up.
Finally, May 13th is a Pro-D Day and the school will be closed for students. As well, May 23rd is Victoria Day so the school will be closed as well.
