Settling into Routine

It has been a busy and productive month of September. Valleycliffe is continuing to implement the new curriculum from Ministry of Education.  If you would like to take a look at the new curriculum, please go to https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/.   As you will find, the Core Competencies of the new curriculum look very similar to the Competencies for our District Strategic Plan. Also, there is the new reporting order.  Please refer to http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/administration/legislation-policy/public-schools/student-reporting

As a school, we are embarking on school-wide Project Based Learning (PBL).  We are excited for new learning opportunities for our students. If you would like to know more about PBL, please go to: https://www.bie.org/about/what_pbl

In preparation for Thanksgiving Day, we will have assembly will be on Friday, October 7th at 1 pm.  We welcome families at our assemblies.

As well, I will be sharing my learning from my work in East Africa in an assembly on Wed, Oct 12 at 1 pm.  I will be talking about the issues that result from poverty, especially in the education system.  VCE hopes to raise awareness about the global poverty issues, fundraise for the Kenya Tuition Fund and continue Skyping with the students in Kenya.

The after school program mentored by the high school students was a huge success for the past two years. Again, we are providing sports and arts & crafts after school Mon and Wed from 3:30 to 4:30. The teen mentors from HSSS and DRSS will be helping with the program starting Oct 5th.  The consent forms are due in the office.

A new extra-curricular opportunity is the Glee Club.  It will provide an opportunity for our Gr. 3 to 6 students to have fun learning about vocal technique, singing and choreography.  The practices will start on Tues, October 4 at lunch.  Students should hand in their applications if they would like to participate. Thank you to the PAC for the support.

Finally, the Code of Conduct committee made up of staff and the PAC met and made some revisions to the VCE Code of Conduct.  Please go to our website: https://sd48valleycliffe.org/school-information/student-expectations/

Thank you for your continued support.
