A Spooktacular Month

During October, we have been practicing being safe with fire, earthquake and lockdown drills.  The students have learned and practiced the procedures for each of the drills.

Project Based Learning (PBL) has started school-wide.  The theme for the PBL is “All About Me”.  The students are learning the skills for collaboration, self-reflection, descriptive feedback and the importance of making revisions and persevering.  We have the public exhibit of student work on Dec 8th.

We were grateful sharing our gifts of songs, poems and photos at the Thanksgiving assembly.  We were proud of our students for their wonderful performances with the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of Alice in Wonderland.  We thank the families, staff and the PAC for their support.

As a part of the global initiatives at VCE, the students have been writing back to the students of Murungai Primary School in Nanyuki, Kenya.  It is very important to communicate and learn with students from other parts of the world.  We thank the staff for their help with this.

The extra-curricular activities such as the Breakfast Club, Boys and Girls Club, Sr. and Jr. Glee Club, Cross Country Club, Dragon Readers Club, Nature Club and Board Game Club.  We thank the sponsors – HSS and DRS mentors, PAC, Mrs. Bourdon, Mrs. Zuckernick, Mrs. O’Grady and Mr. Hackett for their time and commitment.

Today, we had Diwali Celebration of Lights with the students organizing and leading activities such as henna decorating, Indian sweets sampling and Bhabhi card games at lunch.

Helping the local food bank, VCE is collecting non-perishable food with Halloween for Hunger We Scare Hunger campaign.  You can bring the food in until Oct 31st.  For Halloween Day, the intermediate students will be participating in fun stations in the morning then swimming in the afternoon.  The primary students will be part of the Halloween parade at 1:10 pm.

The Gr. 6 students will be attending We Day in Vancouver on Nov 3rd.  They will be listening to the stories from inspiring speakers, watching fantastic performers and learning about how an individual action can make a difference locally and globally.

Looking ahead, the District Implement Day is coming up on Nov 4th.  The teachers in the district will get together to examine the new curriculum and the reporting order.

The Remembrance Day assembly will be on Nov 10th at 11 am—families and friends are welcome to join us for this assembly.
